Air conditioning work in Mesa

Mesa is the largest of the East Valley cities and it has an unusually wide spread of housing ages, which is the single most useful thing to know before booking work here. Central and west Mesa carry a great deal of post war and mid century stock, much of it single story with the air handler in the garage or a closet and ducting run through an unconditioned attic. East Mesa, out toward Southern Avenue and beyond, is dominated by later subdivisions and by the large retirement communities that filled in from the 1970s onward. The right answer for a 1960s house and a 1990s house is rarely the same.

Ductwork is usually the real problem

In older Mesa housing the equipment is often not the weakest part of the system. On a July afternoon a Mesa attic runs well above outdoor air temperature, and flexible duct up there loses capacity through every gap and every crushed bend. Decades of that shows up in three ways: rooms that never quite cool, a system that runs without stopping, and a compressor that fails early because it could never satisfy the thermostat. Replacing a condenser without looking at the duct it feeds is how people end up disappointed by a new system.

The load a Mesa system is actually carrying

The Phoenix area reaches 100 degrees on average from May 2 to October 5 and 110 degrees on average from June 11 to August 26, on about 7.22 inches of rain in a normal year. Heating matters far less here than cooling, but it is not nothing: desert nights drop hard, and a furnace or heat pump that sat unused from April to November is exactly the sort that fails on the first cold evening.
